Auditions!

Do you live in the Cedar Falls area? Do you love shows like “Whose Line is it Anyway”? Do you make jokes in business meetings and your boss gives you that “what are you doing, this is a business meeting” look? Well look no further! Here at Half-Masted Improv, we are ALL those kinds of people! Best part……NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! Just show up and play a few games with us for a couple hours and see if improv comedy is your thing!

Amanda

I was an original cast member of Half-Masted way back in 2003, before phones had cameras and before Facebook was even a thing. I also walked to rehearsals in Lang uphills both ways across campus…Though I would like to say I was a Gilda, I was more like a Lorraine. Now I spend my time doing my part in populating the earth with the cutest gingers you ever did see!

An interview with Amanda

Best food to order at a fast food place: Oreo Shakes (as long as the shake machine is working!), if they don’t have Oreo then chocolate, and if they don’t have chocolate, then move on!

Movie you wish you were in: “The Goonies”

Life goal: That I will always be the cool mom, but not like the other cool moms…

Favorite thing to do in your free time: Knit and Crochet. I like to make things! I am starting to get into board games. I also love watching reality TV, and yes, Survivor is still on after all these years….

Favorite comedian: Tina Fey and Amy Pohler

Best thing about improv: Being surrounded by comedic genius and knowing your castmates won’t ever let you look bad. Also, no lines to memorize!

FUN FACT: I’m a unicorn! No really, I am rare! I am left-handed red head with light colored eyes!

Doug

Doug is the type of man who could put his personality in a bottle for the night, and accidentally use his aftershave in its place the next day. When he was five years old he entered a yellow cab in New York City and asked to be taken to his destiny, and now he’s wishing that he was a better tipper. Living deep in the heart of darkest Iowa, Doug’s friends got tired of him complaining there was no improv in Cedar Falls, and told him to create some.  And by cracky, he did.

An interview with Doug

Best food to order at a fast food place: Depends on the place. Jambalaya at Popeye’s, Whopper with ketchup, onion, and lettuce at Burger King. McDonalds – anything + fries.

Movie you wish you were in: “Hair”

Life goal: At my age you switch to “Life Regret”

Favorite thing to do in your free time: As of 2017 – Bake Bread.  No electric mixer.  Oh – and Scrabble with Ray.

Favorite comedian: Bronwyn May

Best thing about improv: Not only doesn’t the audience know what is going to happen – the actors don’t either.  Unlike scripted theater, the actors and the audience are on the same side of the unknown.

FUN FACT: I spent a year or so listening to all the episodes of the Jack Benny Radio Show in my car, and it affected my sense of humor permanently.

Ray

My measurements are 36″ 32″ 48″ so there is no way these hips can lie to you. I can’t say the same for my other end, but I will say that my Dad knows Bill Gates, and actually went to school will Bill Gates in Bolivia. The teacher was really mean, and said something extremely rude to Bill Gates. My Dad, the hero that he is, told that teacher that Bill Gates was the smartest most bestest guy in the whole world. And then, Albert Einstein came in and shook my Dad’s hand, and gave him the very first Nobel Peace Prize. That’s right, my Dad is Alfred Nobel. Don’t mess with me, I’m the next in line to inherit peace.

Jesse

Jesse no longer does improv, but he does enjoy the occasional joke. He was in the troupe from 2003-2005.

An interview with Jesse

Best food to order at a fast food place: Incredibly inauthentic, overly-sweetened Chinese food.

Something you’re known for: Excessive volume.

Movie you wish you were in: The Fast and the Furious III: Tokyo Drift

Life goal: Already achieved when the Pittsburgh Pirate’s parrot mascot let me wear his oversized novelty hat.

Favorite thing to do in your free time: Shake my fist at those dang neighborhood kids on my lawn.

Best thing about improv: Improv has everything, and you can get into all sorts of wacky situations! You could be in a scene where you pretend to be a chipmunk! Improv has everything.

FUN FACT: Jesse earned his doctorate solely for the ability to say “That’s DOCTOR Wozniak to you!” It was a worthwhile use of seven and a half years of his life.

Larissa

Aaaannnd in this corner, wearing cheap perfume and weighing the same as a wet squirrel, Larissa Pray – a.k.a. “LL Cool Pray”, a.k.a. “Reading Rainbow”, a.k.a. “Larissa Explains it All”. Larissa can be found on the streets of Des Moines, guitar in hand, watching airplanes take off and land. When she’s not making music, or crying in her car, Larissa is busy making America gay again.

An interveiw with Larissa

Best food to order at a fast food place: French fries

Movie you wish you were in: “Carol” (2015)

Life goal: Create a vintage “sister group” where we perform hits of the 1950’s in casinos and nursing homes around the country.

Favorite comedian: Sarah Silverman

Best thing about improv: I can be as weird as I want to be without having to apologize for it.

FUN FACT: I had a sandwich with Barack Obama, told him he should run for president, and then after he won he followed me on Twitter.
